Season 3 Roundup

Post by TheMoonRat »

1st Division
The quality in this division is getting stronger and stronger each season as things shake out, and this was a fiercely contested season. With Markey away on holiday, Soot took the early lead, securing a fortunate but thrilling victory over Akaash, who missed an open net right at the end; a result that could have changed his season. Eirik suffered two straight defeats; the season 1 champion was destined for relegation unless he could pull off a result against a returning Markey. Markey, tanned and fresh, was in no generous mood to win a tight game to send Eirik down. Then in the final hours of the season, he came up against Akaash, who he dispatched 2-0. This left both Soot and Markey on 6 points, but with Soot having the superior goal difference. Soot, unbeaten in his time in the league was in a strong position, but Markey, perhaps with the assitance of some odd occasional freezes in-game, won with a couple of poor goals to take the title for the second season in a row.

2nd Division
Lets start at the bottom, where the division was propped up by PigBenis the entire season. Some gutsy performances last season in div 1 showed the potential he has, but after losing a tight match against Eff, the rest of the season crumbled. Sky put in a relatively comfortable win against Pig, but came unstuck against the double German efficiency of Eff + Schalke; 2 early goals hurting his promotion hopes. His game vs themoonrat was an epic; only 2 goals scored but great tension either end. Sky scored a late (but deserved) equaliser to secure a hard fought draw and another 3rd place. So going into the final game of the season, Effendi just needed a draw, and themoonrat needed a win. After the first half effendi was winning and dominating the game, but a Darren Bent screamer and late late drama in the 87th minute with some pro evo gayness let Defoe through to take moonrat upto the promised land.

3rd Division
Perennial whipping boy TheTud suddenly burst into life this season. Having scored just 1 goal and securing just 1 point in the previous 2 seasons with successive relegations, TheTud roared into action. A tight win over anfieldscouse gave the belief he needed with some new tactics with Sampdoria, and then went off to thump 3 goals past both La and Rule-X. A truely amazing turnaround in fortunes. Propping up the table is La; when you fail to score a single goal in your 3 games you are destined for the drop; the 2nd in 3 seasons for him now. Rule-X beat anfieldscouse in the final game of the season to finish runners up; anfieldscouse surviving relegation on goal difference despite only scoring 1 point for the season.

4th Division
There was only ever going to be one outcome here, and that was a rampant Hyena laughing his way up the divisions. The only surprise was his failure to win all 3; a resiliant Pilling denying him that honour. In fact at one point Pilling was in contention to take the promotion to a goal difference decider, his second game being a 4-1 thumping of Biff to keep things close with Hyenas 5-1 thrashing of Mouse. Hyena had beaten Biff by just 2-0, so going into the game against Mouse, Pilling needed to win by 3-0 or better. Alas it was not to be, Mouse shaking that rust of with every game, winning a tight game 2-1, and knocking Pilling down to 3rd place to add insult to injury. Poor Biff went from losing out on promotion last season via penalties to relegation this season. It's a cruel game.

5th Division
Another poor season that will see a little shakeup of the teams for next; newboy Spincer coming from a goal behind to take victory with Sunderland (a 2nd promotion for Sunderland as Hyena used them too!).
