BREAKING GOSSIP

1108 BST - Middlesbrough agree a fee in the region of £12m for the transfer of England winger Stewart Downing to Aston Villa.

1030 BST - Newcastle have confirmed former caretaker Joe Kinnear will not be returning to the club next season as manager, and midfielder Nicky Butt has called on the club to clarify the situation as soon as possible so they can plan ahead for the new season (Press Association).

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes believes his side can offer John Terry a new lease of life and said the Chelsea and England captain needs a fresh challenge.
