Films

Post by skybluearmy »

I'm drawing up a hit list of films to watch, mainly classics. Have been looking at lots of the "best 100 films of all time" and "films to see before you die" sort of sites but wondered if any of you lot have any recommendations? I'm not so interested in the new stuff but any recommendations whatever era gratefully received :D

Also don't know if any of you have read The girl with the dragon tatoo? If you haven't give it a whirl, that and the 2 other books that follow it are brilliant stories, have read all 3 within last month which is a record for me. I also watched the film of the girl with the dragon tattoo at the weekend which has just been released, thats brilliant too. I promise to go and watch a villa game next season if any of you don't enjoy it!

One that comes to mind that you may not have heard of is This is Spinal Tap. It's got cult status but not everyone has heard of it. It's one of my fave films and influenced Ricky Gervais. Apart from well known classics like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly most other faves consist of 80's and 90's martial arts/action films that you probably wouldn't be in to! Another lesser known film that has stuck in my mind from years ago is After Hours.

I used to watch loads of films but hardly watch any these days. I only really watch the odd action, sci-fi, comedy or horror on Sky. I haven't been to the cinema in ages, I used to have a wicked one near me that had a bar so you could watch a movie with a beer. Unfortunately it closed down as hardly anyone used it. It wasn't really run well to be honest, they often didn't have anyone on the ticket kiosk so you could just walk in and watch a movie for free! I think it was more of a vanity project for the owners whose main business was a restaurant downstairs.

I'm not a huge fan of horror films Eirik, find them a bit daft. But action, thrillers, comedy's, historical stuff, even old classic black and white movies I like. I watched Bullitt last night, had been on my list to watch for ages, starring Steve McQueen, super cool film that.

Any of you brave enough to take up my challenge of reading a book then? :)

Someone bought me The Davinci Code a while back. I keep saying I'm going to read it but it's been sitting there gathering dust. I just can't find the time and if I did have the time I think I would rather be doing something else. I haven't seen the film version so at least I don't know what happens.

Reading a book is one of the most relaxing things you can do and involves having to use your imagination rather than having it spoon fed to you, neanderthals! :D

Some on that list that I haven't seen before Pill, ta - Butterfly Effect and Memento. Glad to see you've got Ferris Bueller on your list, think thats my favourite/most watched film.
